Use Enterprise U.2 NVMe Drives in Any M.2 Motherboard

Enterprise U.2 NVMe SSDs offer exceptional performance and endurance at prices well below their M.2 equivalents on the secondhand market — but most consumer motherboards don’t have a U.2 port. The IO Crest IO-M2TO8643 solves this by converting an M.2 PCIe x4 slot into an SFF-8643 connection, letting you plug in any 2.5″ U.2 NVMe drive via the included cable.

This is a complete kit: the adapter card and the SFF-8643 to SFF-8639 cable are both included. Many competitors sell the adapter alone, leaving you to source the cable separately for an additional £10-15.

How It Works

1. Insert the adapter into an M.2 PCIe x4 (M-Key) slot on your motherboard
2. Connect the cable from the adapter’s SFF-8643 port to your U.2 SSD’s SFF-8639 port
3. Connect SATA power from your PSU to the cable’s SATA power connector (required — the SSD needs its own power)
4. Boot up — the drive appears automatically, no drivers needed

Important — Before You Buy

• PCIe NVMe only — does NOT support SAS or SATA M.2 drives. Your M.2 slot must be PCIe M-Key.
• SATA power required — the U.2 SSD draws power from your PSU via the cable’s SATA power connector. It will not work without this connected.
• BIOS/UEFI compatibility — some older motherboards may not support NVMe via M.2. UEFI 2.3.1 or later is recommended.
• M.2 2260 size — check your motherboard supports a 2260 card in the M.2 slot (most do, but verify the standoff position).
• U.2 SSD not included — this listing is for the adapter card and cable only.
